Four Gambian tour operator companies, African Adventure Tours; Gambia Tours; Alkamba Tours and Discovery Tours have been named among the top 100 African tour operators that will receive the Africa Top 100 Tour Operators Award at the upcoming 14th edition of Akwaaba African Travel Market slated for 9th to 11th September, 2018, in Lagos Nigeria.
Africa Top 100 Tour Operators Award is one of the segments of the event which was put together by ATQ News, a foremost online travel news portal in Africa in conjunction with Akwaaba African Travel Market Tourism as Africa needs to get at least 10% of Africans to travel within Africa, which can only be achieved through the support of Tour Operators.
In an online interview with Ikechi Uko, organiser of Akwaaba African Travel Market and founding member of the #TeamAfrica about the Africa Top 100 Tour Operators, he said ATQ is taking a step further this year, after the recognition of Africa Travel 100 Women Awards in 2017, to recognise and celebrate the core professional outbound Tour Operators who are at the fore of attracting and moving Africans outside their own countries to explore the abundance of the beauties of Africa.
While expressing delight in the event, he noted with enthusiasm that Africa remains a great goldmine whose tourism potentials remain unmatched and untapped.
Meanwhile, at the 13th Edition of the Akwaaba African Travel Market 2017 Hon Fatou Mas Jobe Njie, Angela Andrews Njie, Farma Njie, Ida Cham, Abby Sarr and Ida Jeng Njie were awarded alongside other counterparts as Africa Travel 100 Women: The Leaders, Pioneers and Innovators of Tourism and Travel. Also, Sheik Tijan Nyang –Head, Institute of Travel and Tourism of The Gambia, Honorable Fatou Mas Jobe Njie former Minister of Tourism and Culture, Fumeke Palmer-Sarr – Head, Ecobank Business Service Banjul, Prof (Dr) Adama Ndiaye, Ecotourism Holiday Club Kairaba – Toubacouta and Bunama Njie – General Manager, Senegambia Beach Hotel received the Top 100 Tourism Personalities in West Africa award.
Among other named tour operators for the award are from South Africa, Uganda, Kenya, Egypt, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Congo, Angola, Rwanda, Ghana, Nigeria, Cote D’Ivoire, Benin, Togo, Tanzania and Botswana.
The 14th Akwaaba African Travel Market will also feature Africa Tour Operators Conference. During the session, the theme, “The Role of DMCs and DMOs in Sustainable Destination Marketing in Africa will be discussed with sub-topics – What are the Challenges? Should it be Competition or Cooperation? What are the Effective Models? And Who is Responsible?
