British Airways has reversed its decision on re-routing flights from Heathrow to Gatwick for passengers travelling from Accra to London, following the displeasure registered by the country’s Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA).

According gh-aviation, the re-routing flight was to commence from the beginning of March but the decision has been reversed. Passengers on the Accra – London route will land at their original destination, that is, Heathrow instead of Gatwick.

This decision comes at the back of a lot of negotiations from both parties, the Ghana Government and British Airways officials.

According to atqnews.com, the Ghanaian Ministry of Aviation had reject the decision by United Kingdom carrier, British Airways to operate its Ghana Services from London Gatwick Airport instead of the Heathrow airport without due consultation with the agency.

The ministry in a statement said: “Following this the Ministry of Aviation convened a meeting at the instance of the then minister, Hon. Joseph Kofi Adda, to discuss the matter and to register its displeasure about the way and manner the decision was taking without due consultation with the Ghanaian Authorities.

At the said meeting, the BA team promised to provide further information and data analysis to support their reason for the change of their service from London Heathrow Airport to Gatwick Airport and to enable Government of Ghana to take a final position on the matter. The BA team is yet to provide any information as promised.”
