Africa: Democratic Republic of Congo Civil Societies, Urban Bureau and AFESDI urge govt. to assist victims of Nyiragongo volcano eruption

Civil Societies in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have called on the provincial government to come to the aid of victims of Nyiragongo volcano eruption in the country.

About 400,000 people have been affected by the incident which has claimed the lives of 31 people.

The Urban Bureau of Civil Society of Bukavu in collaboration with the support association for women, in solidarity for integrated development “AFESDI asbl RDC ” has asked the Provincial Government to strengthen security and provide water in the transit site of displaced citizens from Goma in Ndendere in other to prevent water-related diseases.

The observation was made at the end of an assessment carried out on this site by the Urban Bureau of civil society and the AFESDI association in order to assess the living conditions of displaced compatriots in the city of Bukavu.

According to the Administrator of the Ndendere site more than 300 people have been registered in this party in more than 150 households but regrets that some individuals pass themselves off as displaced persons when they are not.

While encouraging the efforts made by the authorities for their support, the Urban Civil Society Office in collaboration with the AFESDI association asks the population of Bukavu to show solidarity with compatriots who are in the host families. And plead for support to all the displaced people who are in the city of Bukavu.

AFESDI in turn has not stopped raising alarm to humanitarian organizations and United Nations agencies in order to come to the aid of the displaced population of Goma who is living in difficult conditions following the eruption of the Nyiragongo volcano in the North. -Kivu.

Internationally, to mobilize as one man in order to provide comforting support to the disaster-stricken brothers and sisters of North Kivu.
