In a significant nod to her contributions to society, Chief Dr. Mujidat Folasade Tinubu-Ojo, the Iyaloja-General of Nigeria, has been named as the official Carnival Calabar Ambassador for the 2024 edition of the festival.

The Cross River State Government bestowed the honor on Tinubu-Ojo in recognition of her outstanding philanthropic work and dedication to humanitarian causes both within Nigeria and internationally.

The prestigious award was presented at Tinubu-Ojo’s residence in Ikeja, Lagos, by Honourable Esther Bepeh, the Special Adviser to the Governor of Cross River State, Liaison Office Lagos.

Bepeh, accompanied by Shirley Effiom, the Commissioner of the Cross River State Carnival Commission, and other key officials, emphasized that Tinubu-Ojo’s relentless efforts to improve the lives of others had not gone unnoticed by the state.

During the ceremony, Bepeh noted, “Mrs. Folasade has been a beacon of selflessness, whose impact stretches far beyond Lagos, reaching people around the world. The Cross River State government is proud to honor her as our ambassador for the renowned Carnival Calabar.”

In her acceptance speech, Tinubu-Ojo expressed her gratitude to the Cross River State Governor, Bassey Otu, his wife, and the people of the state for the recognition. “I am deeply humbled and honored by this award. On behalf of the market leaders across Lagos State, I extend my heartfelt thanks for this gesture. The bond of love and cooperation between Lagos and Cross River is one that I cherish deeply,” she said.

To celebrate the occasion, market leaders and guests were treated to an enthralling performance by the famous Carnival Calabar dancers, giving them a preview of the vibrant cultural displays expected at the upcoming 2024 event.

The Carnival Calabar, a global tourism event held annually, is a major highlight on Africa’s cultural calendar. With Folasade Tinubu-Ojo as its ambassador, this year’s carnival promises to strengthen ties and elevate its prominence both within and outside Nigeria.
