Akwaaba Travel Market

The 20th edition of the Akwaaba African Travel Market came to a close with Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) taking home the prestigious “Overall Best Stand” award.

This marked a standout achievement for Kenya as they outperformed other exhibitors from across the continent, securing the top spot after being assessed by the panel of judges.

The annual expo, which commenced on September 22, 2024, in Lagos, Nigeria, brought together stakeholders and exhibitors from various African countries to showcase their tourism offerings and boost cross-continental collaboration. Over three days, exhibitors demonstrated their unique travel and tourism packages, highlighting the vibrant potential of African tourism.

Kenya’s booth, which emerged as the winner, was praised by the judges for its functionality, presentation, and floor operations, setting a high bar for others. KTB’s seamless organization, engaging display, and excellent interaction with visitors made them the crowd favorite.

Meanwhile, Gambia Tourism Board secured second place overall and earned the title of Best West African Stand, making a strong impression with its vibrant representation of West African culture and tourism offerings.

Cross River State, which brought the colorful spectacle of Carnival Calabar to life, came in third but won the award for Best Nigerian Stand.

The Akwaaba African Travel Market, regarded as West Africa’s biggest tourism and travel expo, continues to serve as a vital platform for promoting inter-African tourism and networking opportunities. This year’s edition stood out not only for its participation from tourism boards, airlines, and tour operators but also for its cultural exchanges and collaborations designed to further grow Africa’s tourism sector.

Kenya’s victory is particularly significant as the country seeks to expand its footprint in West African tourism markets and attract more tourists from across the region.
