Africa: Lilly Ajarova, CEO of Uganda Tourism Board to Speak at Akwaaba African Travel Market MICE Recovery Virtual Conference


The organisers of Akwaaba African Travel Market, the leading Pan-African Travel Expo have confirmed that Lilly Ajarova, CEO of Uganda Tourism Board, will be speaking at the 4th edition of the African Travel and Tourism Conference, scheduled to take place as a virtual event on September 21, 2020.

Lilly Ajarova is the CEO of the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB), the Ugandan government agency that is charged with promoting the country as a tourism destination. Prior to assuming the role on January 10, 2019, the seasoned conservationist and expert was at the Chimpanzee Sanctuary & Wildlife Conservation Trust, where she spent 14 years as the Executive Director.

Between 1996 and 2005, Ms Ajarova was at the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) as Tourism Development and Marketing Manager, and was responsible for the development of tourism services in Uganda’s national parks. She moved to the Chimpanzee Sanctuary & Wildlife Conservation Trust from UWA, serving as a member of the UTB Board. In 2015, Lilly served as the chairperson of the committee that classified and graded Uganda’s hotels.

Lilly Ajarova holds a BSc in Psychology and Sociology from Makerere University, Uganda’s oldest and largest public university. She bagged a Master of Business Administration from the Eastern and Southern African Management Institute (ESAMI) in 2004. In addition, Lilly also holds a post-graduate diploma in Hotel and Tourism Management from International Institute of Tourism and Management in Austria; and a Certificate of Competence in Board Matters, awarded by the Oslo and Akershus University College of Applied Sciences.

The African Travel and Tourism Conference is scheduled for Monday, September 21, 2020 via Zoom at 1400hrs Nigerian time; 1600hrs East African time.

The theme for this year’s conference is: Is MICE a Viable Pathway for Tourism Recovery in Africa?

Other panelists for the event include: Sisa Ntshona, CEO of South Africa Tourism; Jacinta Nzioka (Nat. Coordinator/CEO, Kenya Convention Bureau); and Akwasi Agyeman (CEO, Ghana Tourism Authority), while the lead speaker is Rick Taylor from South Africa.

Special Guest of Honour is tourism guru and presidential candidate in the Seychelles elections, Alain St. Ange, while the session will be hosted by Ambassador Ikechi Uko, season travel and tourism expert and organiser of the event.

Akwaaba African Travel Market, the leading Pan-African Tourism Expo is the first travel and tourism fair in West Africa. Scheduled to host its 16th edition this year, Akwaaba has attracted leading experts and stakeholders in the travel, tourism, aviation and hospitality industries from different parts of Africa and the world. In addition, several important dignitaries such as presidents, ministers, ambassadors and high commissioners from different parts of the world have graced the annual event. The 2020 Akwaaba will be hosted as a virtual event.
