Africa: Nigerian National Museum gets USD 95,000 grant from US Metropolitan Museum on Digital Documentation

As part of efforts to digitalize its objects, a grant of USD 95,000 has been approved by US Metropolitan Museum for Nigerian National Museum, Lagos.

The US team led by Lee Satter Field was received by their Nigerian counterpart led by Mr. Linus Kingi who is the curator of the National Museum.

The US Metropolitan Museum also held a workshop aimed to show how arts can be promoted through history in various museums. The workshop was facilitated by Ms. Savita Monie from Metropolitan Museum, Education department and Ms. Imani Roach a curator from the Metropolitan Museum as facilitators. According to Imani Roach who was one of the facilitators, she said when narrating history with visitors in the museum, it is imperative to understand the kind of audience so as to know how to explain to them.

The US Metropolitan of Art is home to 5000 years of art from around the world and is regarded as the fourth largest museum in the world.
