She underscored the responsibility of youth in spreading awareness about the SDGs. She pointed out that a significant number of people remain unaware of these goals, making it crucial for young individuals to educate their peers and the broader community. Empowering others with knowledge about the SDGs is an essential part of driving progress.

She suggested that individuals should align themselves with an SDG that resonates with their interests and passions. Once this alignment is established, volunteering for advocacy work on that specific goal becomes a powerful way to contribute.

Elizabeth stressed the importance of understanding the SDGs that resonate most with one’s passions. She encouraged young individuals to delve deep into the goals they are passionate about, ensuring a strong understanding of the issues at hand.

To drive meaningful change, Williams recommended identifying organizations that are actively working on the chosen SDGs and supporting their efforts. Collaboration with established entities can amplify the impact of individual actions.

Elizabeth emphasized that youth don’t need to wait for formal organizations to get involved. As individuals, they have the capacity to promote their chosen SDGs on social media platforms. Leveraging existing skills to raise awareness and advocate for change was highlighted as a powerful means of influence.

She concluded by emphasizing the critical role of collaboration and partnership in advancing the SDGs. She emphasized the importance of collective efforts, underscoring that working together as a unified force is essential for promoting and achieving these global goals.

Furthermore, Williams emphasized the importance of holding leaders accountable for their responsibilities related to the SDGs. She encouraged youth to actively question leaders about their manifestos and to call them out when necessary.

Dr. Dapo Fashina, the Director of the Royal African Medical Outreach of His Imperial Majesty Ooni of Ife, focused on equipping young people with essential skills for contributing to the SDGs. He urged youth to nurture critical thinking, embrace risk-taking, and challenge the status quo. Dr. Dapo stressed that critical thinking thrives among the young generation. He urged young individuals not to accept things as they are but to envision what they could be. Embracing risk-taking, questioning the status quo, and viewing people and places as potential agents of change are vital aspects of developing critical thinking skills.

According to Fashina, it is crucial for young people to be change-makers. This requires identifying areas in need of change, collaborating with like-minded individuals, and mobilizing people who share common interests to achieve specific goals. Leveraging social media and leading campaigns were highlighted as effective methods to garner support for causes.

Fashina emphasized the innate innovative capacity of young people. He encouraged them to see things not just as they are but as they could or should be. Innovation, in his view, does not necessarily involve reinventing the wheel; even simple tweaks to existing solutions can lead to significant improvements. Fostering innovation is essential for advancing the SDGs, and it can be built upon previous work by continuously seeking ways to enhance effectiveness.

Effective communication emerged as a vital skill for achieving change and collaboration. Fashina pointed out that without the ability to communicate clearly, mobilizing people and achieving goals becomes challenging. He stressed the importance of delivering messages and ideas in a straightforward manner, avoiding unnecessary jargon. Clear and persuasive communication is essential for conveying one’s vision and mission.

Dr Dapo reminded the audience that leadership is not contingent on holding a title; it is about influence. He encouraged everyone to develop leadership skills by actively engaging in problem-solving, no matter how small the issue. Young people were urged to adopt a leadership mindset and explore leadership roles in student organizations, communities, or areas they seek to improve. Reading leadership books and studying the traits of effective leaders were recommended as means to enhance leadership abilities.

In summary, He emphasized that leaders, especially young ones, must possess the ability to see ahead, be innovative, chart the course, and guide others towards achieving shared goals. Developing these skills is essential for youth to be active agents of change and make substantial contributions to the realization of the SDGs.

Obadare Adenekan, President of the LASU SDGs Club, concluded the discussion with a reminder that youth are pivotal agents for growth and change. Adenekan urged young individuals to push for government action on the SDGs and think creatively to bring about change. He emphasized the availability of funding opportunities for innovative ideas and encouraged young leaders to become the solutions they seek.

The event, marked by passionate advocacy and insightful discussions, left attendees inspired and ready to take concrete steps towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. With a united front of motivated youth leaders, the future holds promise for significant progress in realizing these crucial global objectives.
