Businesspeople should seek out new niche markets and diversify tourist products on offer in Cabo Verde to attract more visitors, particularly from the regional African market, Tourism Minister Humberto Brito said.
At the official presentation of the 6th edition of the Cabo Verde Tourism fair – Expotur 2014 – the minister called on the tourism sector’s businesspeople to create products that are attractive to the people of that region of Africa, “where there are over 300 million consumers.”
According to Brito, cited by the Cape Verdean press, the focus should be on diversifying markets and products and on the local and national authorities working alongside tour operators and the public sector working hand in hand with the private sector.
Only then, he said, would Cabo Verde be able to take advantage of tourism in a way that would benefit the population, and it is important to “promote development of the sector alongside improving the population’s quality of life, so that Cape Verdeans can see a real return on tourist occupation rates.”
This year’s edition of Expotur will be held from 23, 24 and 25 May in the city of Santa Maria, Sal Island. (macauhub)
