Ghana post which is a company responsible for postal services in Ghana is embarking on a nationwide digital means of addressing every location and property in order to facilitate the implementation of key government policies and business transactions in the country.
According to a press release signed by Head, Corporate Communications Kobi Hemaa Osisiadan-Bekoe, the Digital Address system aims at providing an effective means of addressing every location and property to facilitate the implementation of key government policies and business transactions.
She said the exercise requires field agents moving from house to house with valid Identification cards and branded Ghana Post GPs costumes, adding that the field agents are required to generate digital addresses for everyone and tag properties for individuals and organizations upon request.
She said: “The general public is hereby informed that generation of the digital address is free, but tagging of properties attracts a fee. Ghana citizens who have not yet generated digital address for their homes and offices are thereby encouraged to do so in a quest to enhance visibility and identification of their properties, for easy location of business and service providers and also to enhance home delivery”.
“Ghana Post thereby wishes to appeal to community leaders (chiefs, queen mothers, assemblymen, youth groups, etc.) and households to give accredited agents the needed assistance in the discharge of their duties”.
She stated that the digital address system is a requirement to acquire a national ID card. In addition, citizens should remember to give their digital addresses to NADMO, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Ambulance Service and other emergency service providers for easy location and assistance when the need arise.
