Africa: Uganda appoints New Tourism Minister

The Ugandan government has appointed Hon. Tom Butime as the new Minister of Tourism for the country.

According to atcnews.org Butime takes over from former minister, Prof. Ephraim Kamuntu who has now been moved to the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs.

Butime a former member of parliament for Mwenge County Central, Kyenjojo District and was previously serving as Minister for Local Government but also held other cabinet positions in the past.

Hon. Butime (Colonel Rtd.) is a veteran of the liberation war of 1981 to 1986 and has a long history of political appointments in the Uganda government.

Previous portfolios he has held include Minister of Internal Affairs, Minister of State for Refugees and Disaster Preparedness, Minister of State for International Cooperation and acting Foreign Minister. A historical member of the rebel National Resistance Army in the bush war from 1981-86 that morphed into the ruling Movement (NRM) Butime served as Special District Administrator, Nebbi District neighboring (Murchison Falls) as his one of his postings.

Butime is a Trained Cinematographer. His hobby is soccer, with Manchester United as his favorite Premier league side. He also enjoys farming.
