On the occasion of World Heritage Day earlier this month did the EU Mission in Uganda present a new App for listed buildings in Kampala, Entebbe and Jinja as well as launch a new heritage book titled ‘Beyond the Reed and Bricks‘.
The launch marked a year of cooperative efforts between the EU and a Ugandan NGO, the Cross Cultural Foundation of Uganda.
The new App, available for both Android and Apple users, gives visitors to Uganda detailed information about some 60 buildings located in the capital Kampala but also the towns of Entebbe and Jinja.
The book contains the same information as the App does but represents greater value which can be gifted to friends.
Uganda’s architectural heritage from pre- and post colonial days has been under constant threat for historically important buildings as a result of weak and often not enforced regulations with ‘developers’ attempting to raze them to the ground to construct modern skyscrapers.
