Upbeat Trampoline and Gymnastics Club, the first of its kind in West Africa, has celebrated its first competition aimed at showcasing skills acquired by the young gymnasts as it reiterates its commitment to raise gymnastics awareness in Africa while expressing its plan to train gymnasts for laurels in global competitions.
Speaking on the event, Mrs. Uyok Hanson, Operations Manager, Upbeat Trampoline and Gymnastics Club, explained that, “This competition is part of a greater plan that the club has in its plan aimed at training competitors for international gymnastics competitions. Upbeat Trampoline and Gymnastic Club is open to children from ages 3 to the groups of 15 years and up.”
Apart from being an upbeat trampoline and gymnastics club with cool ambience, the whole setting is beautifully crafted into a pub for relaxation and serves drinks, cakes, snacks, fries and small chops, ice creams, has a coffee and book stands.
Mr. Owalter Magana, the Coach of Upbeat gymnastics Club, responding about the Club and event explained that “Upbeat gymnastics club was launched over 8 months ago and this is our first competition, with an intention to make trampoline gymnastics align with FIG standards”.
He revealed that the competition at Upbeat Club is quite unique because it is really the first of its kind in Nigeria and West Africa as a whole, stating further that “For the gymnasts, it’s an end of term assessment for them to showcase the various skills that they have acquired since the term began. The students would be awarded medals based on their performance during the competition”.
He maintained that, “There are a lot more to be gained from the competition as it aims at motivating young gymnasts to improve their skill levels and take into use all that has been learnt during the term. Gymnasts would be judged based on performance and skill level because the competition is expected to be a friendly one”.
Mrs. Moyo Ogunseinde, the brain behind the concept, is the Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer for Uraga Real Estate, the owners of the facility explained that, “We had at least four other teams that participated in this event. The future is bright for the club as we hope that in subsequent editions, more teams will compete. The whole event gives children something to look forward to”.
She explained that the organizations “greatest desire is that Nigeria will receive more medal from the youngsters we are grooming here”.
She shed more light on the concept explaining that, “Uraga is a Real Estate company, and a part of a bigger conglomerate called the Honeywell Group Nigeria Company. And we have the desire to create alternative lifestyle and recreation for children and adolescents, while creating an atmosphere for interaction and networking for individuals of all works of life and families.
“So far we have been having a patronage from national and multinationals. This outfit is also creating a lot of tourism attraction as we have people coming from other countries and within Nigeria to experience our facility and by that we’re creating entertainment, interaction and networking through this outfit, since we are of such outfit in Nigeria” she revealed.
