So a competitor has come in, which has a massively reduced cost base, is incredibly popular and is proving to be the choice of many consumers? Yes, I bet the hotel industry isnt happy! I agree that airbnb and their ilk should be regulated but its simply not true to suggest that airbnb is stifling tourism - if anything the opposite is true. There will always be a market for those who prefer to stay in hotels. Growth does not last forever but I’m confident that there will aleays be a hotel market in South Africa.
