Ali Mohammed Magashi was quoted as saying, "establishing a big airline is capital intensive, so it is only government that can provide or facilitate the financial outlay needed". Nonsense. Either his words were taken out of context...or he was being 'coy' with the interviewer. Aviation operators - around the globe - know and understand that the usurious costs of aviation in Nigeria are the SPECIFIC effects of intrusive, oppressive and confiscatory GOVERNMENT taxation and unreasonable regulation. The NIgeria government views airline revenues...like a lion views a gazelle. There is NO limit to the arbitrary, strong armed imposition, of senseless taxes, levies, surcharges, fees and mysterious 'costs' forced upon the aviation industry. That's why airlines fail. And that's why no one with a brain...will invest in airline operations in Nigeria. Starting an airline in Nigeria is analogous to setting fire to a mountain of cash - or simply GIVING that mountain of cash to the government - with nothing in return. Nigeria's government just cannot get anymore corrupt...or more inept.
