In a significant leadership shake-up within Ghana’s aviation sector, President John Dramani Mahama has relieved Charles Kraikue of his duties as the Director-General of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) according to a statement issued on April 2, 2025 by the President’s Secretary, Dr. Callistus Mahama.
Modern Ghana reports the statement informed Kraikue that his appointment had been terminated effective immediately. He was instructed to hand over his responsibilities to Stephen Wilfred Arthur, who has been appointed as the Acting Director-General of the authority.
In his communication, Dr. Mahama conveyed the President’s gratitude for Kraikue’s contributions to the country’s civil aviation sector, saying: “I write to formally inform you that the President of the Republic has terminated your appointment as the Director-General of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, effective immediately. You are directed to hand over your duties to Stephen Wilfred Arthur, who shall act as the Director-General of the Authority. The President extends his gratitude for your service to the nation.”
While the reason for Kraikue’s dismissal was not disclosed in the statement, it comes as part of a broader wave of restructuring within key government institutions. Arthur is expected to oversee the operations of the GCAA during this transitional period, ensuring a seamless shift in leadership.
