Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has commended the creators of the newly released documentary “Hidden Uganda”, praising the film for illuminating the country’s untold stories, cultural richness, and natural beauty.
According to Soft Power, President Museveni officiated at the screening of Hidden Uganda, a documentary by American journalist Peter Greenberg on Wednesday, April 2, 2025.

The event, held at Speke Resort Munyonyo, was graced by the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Maama Janet Museveni. President Museveni praised Uganda’s natural beauty in his remarks, emphasizing its pleasant climate, diverse attractions, and abundant wildlife. “Here, there’s no need for air-conditioning. We don’t have to warm or cool the air—we enjoy it as it is,” he remarked. He also provided historical context, describing Uganda’s unique geographical position within Africa.
“Africa is a vast continent, covering 12 million square miles—12 times the size of India and four times that of the United States. Uganda, located at its centre, remained largely untouched by foreign influence until 1841 when we first encountered a non-black person, an Arab named Ibrahim,” the President explained. He further highlighted Uganda’s rich cultural preservation, stating, “The British were here for only 70 years, meaning much of our traditions and wildlife remained intact. Our unique agricultural practices, livestock, and fisheries make Uganda distinct. For example, our Ankole cows are the only breed in the world with yellow fat, which contains less cholesterol—a goldmine for the beef industry.”
President Museveni commended Peter Greenberg for showcasing Uganda’s uniqueness to the world. “I appreciate Mr. Greenberg, his team, and Diana for their efforts in diversifying from cattle keeping to promoting tourism,” he said. The President also reassured attendees of the government’s commitment to improving infrastructure to boost tourism. “This documentary will promote our tourism industry, but beyond that, we are enhancing infrastructure. Plans are underway to establish an international airport in Kidepo for high-end visitors and another in Kanungu to improve accessibility to our attractions.”
Vice President Jessica Alupo lauded Hidden Uganda for amplifying the country’s tourism potential, emphasizing that the sector remains a key pillar of national development. She encouraged Ugandans to take an active role in marketing their homeland. The CEO and founder of Age Safaris, Diana Museveni Kyaremera, commended President Museveni for his deep knowledge of Uganda’s history and suggested a future tour with Peter Greenberg to further highlight the nation’s heritage.
“No one knows Uganda’s history and landscape better than our President. A royal tour would significantly boost our tourism industry, and we hope for more initiatives like this to place Uganda on the global map,” she stated. In response, Peter Greenberg expressed gratitude to President Museveni for his support and affirmed his commitment to showcasing Uganda’s beauty through film. “My mission is to share unique experiences, connect people, and highlight what Uganda has to offer. This documentary will reach an audience of over 130 million viewers worldwide,” he revealed. “Mr. President, I sincerely thank you for your support in making this possible.”
