Zimbabwe is set to host a series of high-level UN Tourism events in 2026, marking a significant milestone in the country’s efforts to elevate its global profile and influence in international tourism governance. According to www.news.cn, this was made known by the country’s Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Zhemu Soda during a post-cabinet media briefing on Tuesday in Harare.
Soda said the events will include the 23rd Meeting of the UN Tourism Committee on Tourism and Sustainability, the second UN Tourism Regional Congress on Women Empowerment in Tourism in Africa, and a UN workshop on tourism capacity-building. “Cabinet advises that Zimbabwe will host major United Nations Tourism events scheduled to run back-to-back at the Elephant Hills Resort in Victoria Falls from 27 April to 1 May 2026,” said the minister.
The participation of global tourism leaders, policymakers, development partners, sustainability experts and academia will reinforce Zimbabwe’s commitment to sustainable and resilient tourism development practices, he added. Zimbabwe is home to world-renowned attractions, including the iconic Victoria Falls and the ancient ruins of Great Zimbabwe. The tourism industry serves as a key pillar of the country’s economy.
