Africa: FAAN assures air Travellers of safety as fire razes parts of Owerri Airport.

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria wishes to inform passengers and the general public that there was a fire incident that affected some parts of the terminal building of Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, Owerri at about 1400hours today.

According to a statement by the General Manager, Corporate Affairs, Henrietta Yakubu, the fire was however curtailed swiftly by officers of the Aerodrome Rescue and Fire Fighting Services Department of FAAN.

She said there was no casualty and normal operations has since commenced at the airport.

She stated that the Authority has commenced preliminary investigations into the cause of the incident.

she said: Following the fire incident at the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, Owerri, earlier today, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria hereby apologise to passengers, airlines and other airport users for any inconvenience suffered as a result of the unfortunate incident.

We will continue to do our best at ensuring that our airports are safe, secure and comfortable for our esteemed customers.”
