The South African Presidency has elaborated on recent updates to the simplified visa process for Nigerian nationals.
This clarification follows President Cyril Ramaphosa’s address at the South Africa-Nigeria Bi-National Commission on December 3, aimed at enhancing bilateral relations and easing travel barriers.
According to tourismupdate.co.za, as part of broader efforts to modernise and streamline visa processes, South African missions in Nigeria have introduced changes to improve efficiency and accessibility for applicants. These reforms aim to support economic activities and boost tourism while maintaining the security and integrity of the visa system.
Key changes to the visa process:
- Submission requirements: Applicants are no longer required to submit their passports with their visa applications. Instead, they must provide certified copies of the biography page of their passports during the application stage.
- Passport verification: Applicants must still physically present their passports for verification and confirmation during the process.
- Visa issuance: Once approved, passports must be submitted for the visa to be affixed.
These changes are designed to improve the customer experience while upholding the robustness of the visa system.
This development aligns with South Africa’s broader visa reforms, which focus on balancing national security with enabling travel and economic growth.
