Deeper life High School, Port Harcourt, one of the schools that represented Nigeria at the just concluded World Robot Olympiad, which held in Qatar, ranked top in Africa for the Regular Junior high category of the competition.
The World Robot Olympiad is a yearly Robotics competition designed to promote technology applications, innovation and creativity among students from around the world. Each year participants from over 40 countries compete at the event.
While receiving the Deeper life High school team on arrival in Port Harcourt after the event, Managing Director, SciTech Generation Ltd owners of the YoungStarGenius brand, Mrs. Angela Opubo, said the organisation that provided coaching for the pupils and South-South organiser of World Robot Olympiad events. According to her, “the competition was keenly contested.
“The challenge for the world event was for students to develop a robot that could explore for precious pearls in remote areas. The pupils competed with the best from around the world and gave a good showing. The event provided a good platform for learning and stimulation of their hidden genius. We hope a lot more pupils and schools would begin to appreciate the importance of Robotics Education in developing Science and Technology in Nigeria.”
On her part, the MD of Arclights Limited, LEGO education partner and the National Representatives of World Robot Olympiad in West Africa, Abisola Obasanya, said corporate bodies and government agencies should support these schools and pupils to sponsor Robotics Workshops and events around their localities.
