To cushion the effect of the coronavirus pandemic on the tourism sector, a hundred small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) operating in the sector in Tunisia and affected by the COVID-19 pandemic will receive financial support through the “Tourism Recovery Programme”, said the German Cooperation Agency (GIZ) in Tunisia.

According to tap.info.tn, the programme supported by GIZ presented Thursday at the employers’ organisation (UTICA) offers selected companies the opportunity to receive targeted mentoring, training and direct financial support of up to 9,000 euros per company.

The programme is aimed at SMEs operating in the travel and tourism sector, having obtained a license during the period 2004 and 2018, and have already completed, within the set deadlines, all the documents to prove the damage and losses from the COVID-19 pandemic.

This programme is launched by the Enpact initiative, created to provide direct support to entrepreneurs in emerging markets, and world’s leading tourism group Tui Care Foundation.

It reinforces the efforts and objectives of the tourism projects financed by the European Union (EU) and the German Cooperation GIZ.

The programme It will allow companies in the Tunisian tourism industry to cope with the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, improve their ability to innovate, maintain jobs and strengthen international collaboration with the European market, according to GIZ.

Applications for this programme are open until October 27.

The project “Promotion of Sustainable Tourism” is a joint action of the EU in Tunisia and the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism and Handicrafts under the programme “Tounes Wijhetouna”.
