The Addis Ababa Trade Bureau has mandated an extension of operating hours for commercial establishments in the city, requiring businesses to remain open until 9:30 p.m., aiming to boost economic activity and improve service accessibility for residents.
According to 2merkato.com, Habiba Siraj, Head of the Trade Bureau, stated that the decision was approved by the city administration cabinet as part of efforts to leverage favorable conditions in Addis Ababa, particularly in areas with significant corridor development.

In addition to the extended hours for businesses, government and private transportation services are now required to operate until 10 p.m.
The official also highlighted the growing dynamism in the city’s commercial sector, revealing that over 47,000 merchants have obtained new business licenses in the past five months. Merchants who have not yet renewed their licenses were urged to do so promptly.
To accommodate this, the bureau announced extended service hours for license renewals, operating from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. daily.
