Air Congo has taken delivery of its second Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, marking another milestone in the airline’s fleet expansion strategy and ambition to strengthen the Democratic Republic of Congo’s links with international destinations.
According to Aviation Spotter 254, the aircraft was received on October 28, 2026, at a ceremony attended by the Deputy Prime Minister responsible for Transport, Communications and Accessibility, highlighting the government’s interest in the development of the country’s aviation sector.
Configured to accommodate 292 passengers, the wide-body aircraft features 30 Business Class seats, 36 Premium Economy seats and 226 Economy Class seats, offering a range of travel options for passengers on long-haul routes.
Air Congo said the addition reflects its commitment to improving passenger comfort and safety while expanding air connectivity between the Democratic Republic of Congo and the rest of the world.
The arrival also signals the airline’s continued efforts to strengthen its operational capacity as it seeks to establish a stronger presence in international aviation.

Second Dreamliner Strengthens Air Congo’s Fleet
Aviation reports have identified the newly received aircraft as a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner registered EI-MGL, reportedly leased from MIAT Mongolian Airlines.
It is the airline’s second Dreamliner, following the Boeing 787-8 registered ET-ASI, which Air Congo has used to operate European services under a wet-lease arrangement with Ethiopian Airlines.
The addition of the larger 787-9 variant gives the airline another wide-body aircraft to support its international ambitions, although the destinations and deployment plans for the new aircraft have not been detailed in the announcement.
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner family is designed for long-haul operations, combining fuel-efficient technology with cabin features intended to improve the passenger experience. Its use by Air Congo could support the airline’s efforts to develop its international network and offer more competitive travel options.
Strengthening the Democratic Republic of Congo’s Aviation Sector
Air Congo’s fleet expansion comes as the Democratic Republic of Congo seeks to improve its international accessibility and strengthen the role of aviation in economic development.
Improved air connectivity can support tourism, business travel, trade and investment by making it easier for international visitors and business communities to access the country.
For the airline, the arrival of the second Dreamliner represents an important addition to its fleet. The long-term impact will depend on how the aircraft is deployed, the routes it serves and the airline’s ability to sustain reliable operations.
With the latest delivery, Air Congo has reinforced its commitment to expanding its capabilities and improving connections between the Democratic Republic of Congo and the wider world.
As the airline continues to develop its fleet and international operations, its progress will be closely watched by passengers, aviation stakeholders, and tourism industry players interested in improved access to Central Africa.
