Air Travellers are having a hard time gaining access into airports across Nigeria, as Aviation Unions in the industry have barricaded all access roads leading to the airport, as they commence a two-day warning strike.
The unions comprise the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE), Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN); the National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers (NAAPE) and the Association of Nigerian Aviation Professionals (ANAP) had earlier issued a notice to agencies in the sector that they will embark on a strike, if their demands for a better welfare package among other things are not met.
The unions are demanding the immediate release of the reviewed Condition of Service, CoS as negotiated between them and four aviation agencies for over seven years, implementation of the minimum wage consequential adjustments and arrears for the Nigeria Meteorological Agency, NiMet since 2019 and halt to the planned demolition exercise of all the agency buildings in Lagos by the Minister of Aviation for an airport city project called aerotropolis.
As early as 4 am, the unions mobilized their members who took over the strategic entrances to the airport from the Ikeja axis, Mafoluku/Beesam axis and the Oshodi/Isolo to the tollgate from the international airport.

Flight operations have been grounded as passengers cannot gain access into the terminals and there is heavy vehicular traffic around the airport environment.
All roads leading into the airport from ikeja under bridge, agege motor road, oshodi and the access toll gate into the airport are blocked as the unions gathered to address the workers at the roundabout at the domestic wing of the airport.
