As part of its strategy to strengthen air connections with West Africa, TAAG Angola Airlines is set to introduce direct flights between Angola and Cape Verde starting December 12, 2026.

According to Ecofin Agency, the new route will link Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport, in Angola’s Icolo e Bengo Province, with Praia, Cape Verde’s capital. The service is expected to support trade, tourism and closer ties between communities in the two countries.

The airline will operate two flights per week. Departures from Angola are scheduled between Monday and Saturday, while return flights from Praia will operate between Tuesday and Sunday. According to TAAG, the new route marks the first step in a broader regional growth program that also includes service to Dakar, Senegal, in 2027. The airline aims to strengthen its position in West African markets and give Angola more air connections across the continent. The strategy is part of TAAG’s wider growth ambitions. The national carrier wants to triple its annual passenger traffic to 3 million by 2030, compared with nearly 1 million in 2022. To support that target, it also intends to increase its fleet from around 20 aircraft today to 50 over the coming years.

Meeting those goals, however, will depend on the airline’s ability to maintain reliable, competitively priced services while controlling operating costs and keeping enough aircraft available. The profitability of its new routes will also depend on passenger demand and its ability to attract enough customers in a competitive regional market. TAAG will therefore need to strengthen both its operational capacity and commercial performance as it adds destinations to its network. Those improvements will be essential to sustaining the passenger growth the airline has set out to achieve.
