The Bayelsa State government in Nigeria’s Niger-Delta area (South-south geo-political zone) has announced the appointment of Dr. Iti. Orugbani as the new Commissioner for Culture and Tourism.
Born in Nembe-Bassambiri, Nembe Local Government Area of Bayelsa State to a committed and dedicated teacher and chief through whom he had the rare privilege to acquire sound, moral and formal education, Dr. Orugbani, had his early life in the community and had his primary education at Isaiah-ama, Oluasiri-Nembe.
Iti obtained his first Degree in History and Diplomatic Studies in 2001 at the University of Port Harcourt and in a quest to broaden his knowledge and horizon later proceeded to the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, where he bagged Master of Arts in Economic and Social History in 2010.
The inspiration and desire to change his course for good propelled him to seek further academic attainment and still at the prestigious University of Nigeria, bagged his doctoral degree in Economics History in 2016.
The young Iti far back 1996 started his political career from the grassroot and as a result became a Youth Leader in Ikensi Clan from 1996 – 2003 and by extension in Opu- Nembe Kingdom.
These include: Special Adviser to the Mini/Ikensi Chairman on Petroleum and Environmental Matters, 2001; Special Assistant to the Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Affairs, Bayelsa State 2007-2008; Chairman Mini/Ikensi RDA, 2008-2010; Member Post Primary Schools Board, 2015-2016; and Special Adviser to the immediate past Governor of Bayelsa State, His Excellency, Hon. Henry Seriake Dickson, 2019.
Dr. Orugbani, had over the years gained a lot of experience which then propelled him to serve very well as Campaign Coordinator, Nembe Constituency three (3) for SDD/LAW Campaign Organisation (Prosperity 2019).
He is also a lecturer in the Department of History and Diplomacy, Niger Delta University, Wilberforce Island, Amassoma, Bayelsa State.
