Cabo Verde Airlines, the national carrier of Cabo Verde, is preparing to resume direct flights to Brazil and the United States, marking a significant step in reconnecting these important markets.
According to Aviacionline, this was made known by the new chairman of the board of directors of TACV (Cabo Verde Airlines), Pedro Barros.
Barros mentioned the Cape Verdean government’s commitment to establishing air connections this year. “The Cape Verdean community in Brazil and the United States can rest assured that we will have a direct connection,” he guaranteed. Barros emphasized that, in addition to direct flights to the United States and Brazil, Cape Verdeans will also be able to travel to other European cities. This expansion of TACV’s air network is seen as a response to the demands of the community in both countries, which has been clamoring for better air transport options, reports our associated media in Brazil, Aeroin.

TACV inaugurated its flights to Spain on July 30 in collaboration with the tour operator CN TRAVEL. The flight from Sal Island to Barcelona is operated on Tuesdays, with ticket sales being handled exclusively by the tour operator in this initial phase, without availability for sale to the general public. This operation not only promotes Cabo Verde as a tourist destination in the Spanish market but also opens new opportunities for the national airline in transporting tourists between Cabo Verde and Spain.

TACV also reinforced its commitment to gradually adjust the capacity of its international and domestic operations according to market demand. This strategy aims to ensure that the company adapts to passenger needs and maintains a sustainable operation. With the anticipation of the return of direct flights and the expansion of routes, TACV is positioning itself for a promising future in the aviation sector.
The international network of Cabo Verde Airlines connects Praia (RAI) and São Vicente Island (VXE) with Lisbon and Paris-CDG; and Sal Island (VXE) with Lisbon, Milan, and Barcelona. Its fleet consists of a Boeing 737 MAX 8, an ATR 72-500, a Boeing 737-700, a DHC-8-300, and an ATR 72-600. The company is still far from its pre-pandemic numbers, when it transported around half a million passengers per year (in 2023, there were just 70 thousand). Before Covid-19, Cabo Verde Airlines had Boeing 757-200 aircraft in its fleet, operating flights to destinations in America (Fortaleza, Recife, Salvador, Porto Alegre, Boston, and Washington), Europe (Rome and Milan), and Africa (Lagos), including northeastern Brazil and Porto Alegre. The company’s idea was to turn Cabo Verde into a connecting hub in the middle of the Atlantic, but that changed with the coronavirus.
