The Zanzibar Commission for Tourism (ZCT) kindly reminds all hotel establishments and tour operators about the importance of ensuring that visitors respect and adhere to Zanzibar’s cultural norms, traditions, and values.
According to a notice released by the Zanzibar Commission for Tourism, all establishments are requested to inform and guide their guests before they leave the premises to observe the appropriate Code of Conduct and Ethics, specifically regarding proper dress code in public areas. Visitors should dress modestly, covering shoulders and knees, particularly when moving around towns, villages, and local communities.
Starting 01/05/2025, the Zanzibar Commission for Tourism will conduct a special and continuous operation to monitor and ensure compliance with these standards across the islands. Strict penalties and legal actions will be imposed on establishments and individuals who fail to comply.
ZCT counts on your full cooperation in promoting responsible tourism that respects Zanzibar’s cultural identity and strengthens its image as a welcoming
yet culturally sensitive destination.
