In a symbolic act of cross-border environmental collaboration, the Ethiopian government led by Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed has delivered 4,000 tree saplings to Nigeria, marking a significant chapter in their shared commitment to planetary restoration and climate resilience.
According Habesha Diaspora, the shipment, which arrived at Abuja International Airport, was received by Ethiopia’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Legesse Geremew, alongside representatives from the Nigerian presidency.
The guesture reflects the growing environmental cooperation between Ethiopia and Nigeria and aligns with Ethiopia ongoing continental effort to encourage reforestation and sustainable development through the Green Legacy Initiative.
Ethiopia launched its Green Legacy Initiative in 2019, ambitiously aiming to plant billions of trees across the country to combat deforestation, drive job creation, and model climate leadership in Africa. Nigeria’s Vice President Kashim Shettima, during a state visit to Ethiopia, embraced the program as a blueprint for the country’s environmental strategy.
