Stakeholders in Nigeria’s freight forwarding and logistics sectors have called for a national logistics policy so as to improve the industry.
Speaking during a panel session on Standardizing Freight Forwarding To Meet Global Standards at the 5th CHINET AviaCargo Conference held in Lagos, the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of Council for Registration of Freight Forwarding In Nigeria (CFRFFN), Mr. Igwe Kingsley said a national logistics policy should be introduced in the interest of both the aviation, marine and blue sectors of the economy.

He urged the authorities to standardize freight forwarding at the policy formulation stage while drafting and revising the national trade and logistics policies, during digitalization of single window implementation, at capacity development stage, before major trade agreements take effect, and during infrastructure modernization.
“Standardization is not about compliance alone but about efficiency, competitiveness and Africa’s future in the global trade market,” he said.
In his presentation on How E-commerce Is Shaping The Future Of Logistics In Africa, the Chief Operating Officer of Bicourtney Aviation Services, Mr. Remi Jibodu called for development of a national cargo logistics policy, identifying regulatory complexities where multiple agencies have overlapping roles as part of the air cargo missing link in Nigeria.
The Chief Executive Officer of Mainstream Cargo Limited, Mr. Seyi Adewale in his input, said present day challenges include different airlines having different technological solutions used by ground handling associations, which negatively impacts on costs, manpower utilization and overall efficiency in air cargo process.
