Last week in the East African city of Nairobi Kenya we got treated to a meal that was worth Committing a crime for. Lol
Charity Githinji of Tandaza claimed it was a 9 course meal. Nev Jiwani of Go Places said it was awesome but I imagined it was 15 courses. For some strange reason my counting was off that night. The food and the drinks were coming in waves.
At the beginning of my life as a travel writer a veteran Tour Operator Mrs. Teresa Ezobi of Tess Travels told me that Travel Business allows you to live like a Millionaire without being one. This night at the picturesque environs of the Fairview fulfils that saying
Though I can afford to pay for any of my desires there are still limits of pleasure that are crazy and worthy of note.
Chef Kabelo Mooketsi is South African and had worked on Cruise Ships with a global exposure but he included lots of Kenyan flavours in this classy Outing that you wondered how he designed this masterpiece . He is the new Chef at Fairview Hotel in Nairobi.
The Occasion was the private launch of a new Product at Fairview Hotels. It is called the CHEF’S TABLE. There were 12 people that included the Hotel GM Bruce Potter and Maureen Ogola the Sales Team leader.
We were to be treated to a feast designed by the new Master chef.
It started at 7 PM at the Pango restaurant upstairs with Champagne and small talks. We moved down to the TABLE and Chef Kabelo and his team joined us. Evelyn his assistant and the ever Smiling Roseline. Then the feast began with small portions of Amuse Bush a Rosalia prosecco Treviso. Each meal came with a different drink. White wine, Rose, red wine, champagne etc.
We had what I called “pigmy”plantain with Mango in peanut butter then Stuff like Beef Cheek and Tongue, Duck and Beetroot Risotto, Granite which includes Ginger and lemon grass. We had Coconut foam and Vodka, Coconut Rice,Sea Bass and Tamarind Sauce. Lobsters with local Kenyan arrow root chips plus Blue Cheese. Not done yet we had Beef fillet with red wine. The beef was aged for 40 days and dried for 20 days.
After all the eating it was 10 pm and the dessert came with a bet. Anyone that will give up his dessert will get $100. The dessert came with Champagne and it was Ice cream dipped in Amarula and honey.
Nobody got the money as all 12 of us Indulged.
It was a great Evening. I am glad I accepted to take up the Offer.
Nobody got drunk and nobody got fed up.
Kudos to chef Kabelo and team at the Fairview team. I loved every bit
