The Gambia has appointed Ida Jeng Njie as the new Director General of the Gambia Tourism Board (GTB), signaling a leadership transition at a critical time for the country’s tourism sector.
The appointment places a seasoned tourism administrator at the helm of one of The Gambia’s most strategic agencies as the country works to strengthen governance and rebuild confidence in the industry.
Before her elevation, Njie served as Director of the GTB’s Tourism Office in London, where she was responsible for promoting The Gambia in one of its key source markets. She was later redeployed to Farato, heading the Regional Tourism Office for the West Coast Region, a major hub for the country’s tourism activities.
Her appointment comes as the tourism sector seeks stability, institutional reforms, and renewed credibility, with stakeholders closely watching how the new leadership will navigate both growth opportunities and lingering governance concerns.
