Africa: Gambia, UNWTO to explore opportunities to drive tourism growth

Following the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the global tourism industry, with effects on depleted revenues, the Gambia and the World Tourism Organisation is to explore opportunities to drive tourism growth in the country.

Gambia’s Minster of Tourism and Culture, Honourable Hamat NK Bah and Senior Officials of the ministry and the Gambia Tourism Board met with the Secretary General of the UNWTO, Zurab Pololikashvili, in Madrid, Spain to discuss ways of exploring the opportunities tourism brings to the continent.

Different areas were discussed for support to the tourism in the Gambia which included marketing and promotion and product development.

The UNWTO Secretary General promised to look into the request of the Honourable minister of tourism and culture of the Gambia.

Hamat NK Bah also used the occasion to request for 3000,000 COVID vaccine doses for the Gambia from the Spanish government and UNWTO.

He also met the king and queen of Spain among others
