Africa: Healthy Billionaire’s Fitness club holds city walk against Covid-19 in Calabar

The paradise city of Calabar was agog with fitness enthusiast, as the Healthy Billionaires Fitness Club in collaboration with all leading fitness, social and humanitarian clubs in state capital led a city walk tagged ‘Calabar Walkathon’, a walk against Covid-19.

According to calabarblog.com, the city walk which is the first ever Calabar Walkathon kicked off from the Millennium park through the 12km Carnival Calabar route and was flagged off by the Honourable Speaker, Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Eteng Jonah Williams alongside, the Chairman Cross River State Covid-19 Taskforce and Commissioner for Health, Dr. Betta Edu, Commissioner for Finance, Asuquo Ekpenyong Jnr, Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Eric Anderson, Director General, Primary Health Care, Dr. Janet Ekpenyong, other top government functionaries, private professionals and media.

The Chairman of the Healthy Billionaires Fitness Club, Mr. Williams Archibong in his opening remark said, “As a community we came together to walk against Covid-19, creating awareness of the global pandemic, distribution of free nose-masks, hand sanitizers as well as encouraging citizens to abide by all the NCDC Covid-19 safety protocols.”

This message was given in English, Pidgin and Efik languages”, Archibong added.

The Calabar Walkathon city walk recorded over 1,000 participants from various clubs including, Eastside Sports Club, Miki Fitness Club, Pro-Fitness, DBB Fitness, Lions Club International, Ifiok Fitness, Summit Hills, 7km Club, Calabar City Walkers, Calabar City Joggers and Hunters Security.

All participants were seen maintaining strictly the Covid-19 protocol of keeping a social distance and wearing of nose masks all through the walk.
