Malawi Information Minister Patricia Kaliati is plotting war with sensational tabloid, Weekend Times, with its Page 8 ‘Action Girl’ that depicts ‘sexualised images’ similar to ‘Page 3′ of The Sun in the UK

Kaliati, speaking at the launch of the Malawi Child Protection and Gender Media Network, is reported to have condemned the Weekend Times Page 8 girls , describing it as pornographic and misogynistic.

The Minister accused the paper of promoting indecency, “What a shame!” she screamed.
“Why pay a girl child to pose in the nude?” said Kaliati according to Weekend Express, published by the Malawi Institute of Journalism.

Average ‘Action Girl ‘rarely gets the dignity of a surname in the paper. The girls are reportedly paid K15,000 to appear on the page.

“How would you feel to see your daughter or sister exposed like that?” wondered Kaliati.
She called on journalists to campaign for the removal of Page 8 from Weekend Times.
This is not the first time for the paper to court controversy with the page of all revealing Action Girl.

Last April the almost naked girl identified as Monalissa also attracted people’s outrage.
Fans of Action Girl favourites, who spoke to Nyasa Times, blasted Kaliati for plotting war on Page 8.

The said Kaliati’s reaction “smacks of desperation” to censor the media.
The weekly specialises in reporting sensational scandals, mostly on extra-marital sexual escapades of celebrities and the mighty in society – especially politicians.
It is part of the stable of Blantyre Newspapers Limited owned by the family of the former dictator, the late Hastings Kamuzu Banda.
