Africa: Kenya appoints Ms. June Teclar Chepkemei as new CEO of Kenya Tourism Board

The Kenyan Government has appointed Ms. June Teclar Chepkemei as the new Chief Executive Officer, the Kenya Tourism Board

June Chepkemei was formerly the Acting, Managing Director, of Kenya Investment Authority(KENINVEST).

Prior to joining KENINVEST, she was the Head of Marketing & Corporate Communications at Konza Technopolis Development Authority (KoTDA).

She was also the Project Coordinator for Kenya Advance Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) being developed by the Ministry of ICT & Digital Economy in partnership with The Ministry of Education (MoE).

She pioneered the Konza Innovation Ecosystem Initiative that brings together stakeholders to support the commercialization of Research, Innovation, and enterprise solutions. The initiative was voted 3rd Most inspiring solution by the International Association of Science Parks and Areas of Innovation (IASP).

Before joining KoTDA, June was the Communications Business Partner at Safaricom Limited having worked for 6 years in the Media Industry.

She was appointed to the Taskforce on the Kenya Media Policy Guidelines and was named among the Top 25 Women in Digital 2021.

She holds a Masters’s Degree in Communications Studies from Moi University, a bachelor’s Degree in PR & Communications, Postgraduate Diploma In Professional Marketing, from The Chartered Institute Of Marketing UK, and an Executive training program on Innovation from Stanford Centre For Professional Development.

She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Information Science. She is a Chartered Marketer by the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM), UK, and a Member of the Public Relations Society of Kenya.

In 2022, June successfully led Kenya’s team in a fruitful bid to host the 41st International Association of Science Parks and Areas of Innovation (IASP) world conference slated for 2024.

She was also part of the team that was charged with delivering Technology and Innovation Jamhuri in 2022.
