In a landmark move toward devolved conservation management, the Kenyan Government has completed the transfer of Amboseli National Park’s administration to the Kajiado County Government.
The decision marks a significant shift in Kenya’s approach to wildlife governance, aimed at strengthening local participation, accountability, and sustainable tourism development within one of the country’s most iconic parks.

President William Ruto while officiating the Third Maa Cultural Festival in Amboseli, announced that the transfer marks a historic step in deepening collaboration between national and county governments.
He noted that the move sets a precedent for shared governance, aligning national conservation goals with local priorities and reinforcing Kenya’s commitment to sustainability, community empowerment, and the preservation of natural heritage.
