Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique (LAM) has unveiled a new identity, Air Mozambique, as the national carrier begins a fleet renewal programme with the introduction of its first newly acquired Embraer 190 aircraft. According tourismupdate.com, the aircraft, named “Limpopo,” entered commercial service on August 14, operating its first flight on the Maputo–Nacala route. A second Embraer 190, named “Zambeze,” is expected to enter service later on the Maputo–Beira route.
The rebranding and fleet expansion form part of efforts by the Mozambican government and the airline to rebuild LAM’s operational capacity, improve domestic air connectivity and create a more competitive national carrier. According to the airline, the Air Mozambique identity is intended to represent a more modern and efficient company with a stronger focus on passenger needs.
Speaking during a ceremony in Nacala, Mozambique’s Minister of Transport and Logistics, João Matlombe, said the developments were part of broader government efforts to restore LAM’s operational capacity and improve mobility across the country.
He said the recovery programme includes internal reorganisation, cost control, improvements to management models, streamlined operations and stronger operational discipline. Matlombe also stressed that the new brand must be accompanied by improvements in customer service, including greater emphasis on ethics, empathy, discipline and communication with passengers. He called for stronger adherence to schedules and said passengers should receive adequate information and assistance whenever delays occur.
The introduction of the Embraer 190 aircraft is expected to give the airline additional flexibility to serve Mozambique’s domestic market while supporting the rebuilding of its network. The developments mark a new phase for Mozambique’s national airline as it seeks to combine fleet renewal, operational restructuring and a refreshed brand identity in an effort to improve the passenger experience and strengthen domestic connectivity.
