Kenya commemorates the 7th anniversary of the Mombasa-Nairobi Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), a vital transportation link that has carried 12.869 million passengers since its inception.
The SGR has significantly improved accessibility and contributed to local development over the past seven years.
According to social media post by the transport agency, since its inauguration on May 31, 2017, the Mombasa-Nairobi Standard Gauge Railway, constructed and operated by China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCCC’s) subsidiary China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC), has been running smoothly for seven years.
Over these years, it has averaged 13.3 freight trains per day, transporting a total of 2.684 million TEUs and 32.867 million tonnes of goods, providing robust support for Kenya’s logistics and transportation. Additionally, with an average of 6.4 passenger trains per day, it has carried a total of 12.869 million passengers, making travel more convenient and efficient for the public.
The Mombasa-Nairobi Standard Gauge Railway has not only improved Kenya’s infrastructure and increased employment but has also become a symbol of convenience and efficiency for the local people.
