Mozambique and Eswatini have agreed to strengthen cooperation in tourism, with both countries seeking to promote regional travel and increase the movement of visitors between the two destinations.
According to the Agência de Informação de Moçambique (AIM), the decision was reached during a meeting in Maputo between Mozambique’s Minister of Culture and Tourism, Maria Manuela dos Santos Lucas, and Eswatini’s Minister of Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Jane Mkhonta.
The two ministers discussed opportunities to enhance tourism cooperation and regional integration, recognising the potential for closer collaboration to increase tourism flows and strengthen the sector’s contribution to economic development in both countries. The initiative comes as African destinations increasingly seek to promote intra-African tourism, encouraging travellers to explore multiple countries within the region while improving cooperation among tourism authorities.
For Mozambique and Eswatini, stronger collaboration could create opportunities for joint destination promotion, greater visibility for tourism attractions and improved connectivity between their tourism markets. The partnership also reflects a broader push to position tourism as a tool for economic growth, employment creation and regional integration, while encouraging greater movement of African travellers across borders.
