Africa: New dates and Program for Nigerian Carnival Calabar Power Week released by Executive Secretary Austin Cobham

As a buildup to the 2024 Carnival Calabar, dubbed Africa’s biggest street party, the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Austin Cobham has reeled out dates of events that would take place at this year’s festival.

The announcement of the dates is geared towards ensuring that visitors to the Carnival are adequately prepared and also plan their itinerary to sooth the various activities lined up for tourism enthusiast.

Speaking at the Press Conference in Lagos to introduce the 2024 Program to the media, Cobham, said the carnival would be a 32-day event filled with exciting programmes for visitors.

According to him: “The first dry run heralding the carnival would hold Oct. 20,
The second dry run would be on November 17th, and The third and final dry run would hold Dec. 8, The Bikers’ dry run will hold on December 22nd.

He said the power week Starts on the 26th of December with the Cultural Carnival, same day for the Kings and Queens Night. The Junior Carnival on the 27th of December and the Pageant of Humanity.

Also, the Grand Street Carnival will be on the 28th while the Bikers Carnival will be on the 29th.

He said the Marian Street Party will be on the 30th, while the Christmas light switch on will happen in other Senatorial Zones too this year.

“The cultural carnival would hold on Dec 26, as well as the Kings and Queens performance; the children carnival, now called the junior carnival will take place on Dec 27, the Carnival Calabar known as Africa’s biggest street party will be on Dec. 28, while the street party will be on Dec. 30,” he said.

Also speaking at the event, Effiong Ekpenyong the Special Adviser Events, said there will be musical and entertainment events every evening to thrill visitors at this year’s carnival adding that major A list artists will be expected to rock Calabar.

He stated that 12 home-based talents will be groomed and given support to build a carrier.

“We shall create more Inyanyas this year”. He announced free Musical shows during the Dry runs at Eleven Eleven.
