Africa: Nigeria Immigration Service Appoints AS Akinlabi as New Public Relations Officer

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) Comptroller General, KN Nandap, has appointed Assistant Comptroller of Immigration AS Akinlabi as the new Service Public Relations Officer to oversee communication and public affairs.

According to nigerianflightdeck.com, His appointment follows the posting of the previous officer, Deputy Comptroller of Immigration KT Udo, as Passport Control Officer for Akwa Ibom State Command. The Senior Staff Posting Order announced the changes on January 31, 2025.

Akinlabi, from Ibarapa Central Local Government Area in Oyo State, is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Corporate Administration of Nigeria. He holds a BSc in Accounting from the University of Ilorin and a master’s in international Affairs and Diplomacy from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

Since joining the NIS on December 29, 2006, he has served in various capacities. He completed his Superintendent Basic Course at the Immigration Training School in Kano in December 2007. Over the years, he has attended specialized training in migration, security, and border management.

Akinlabi has worked across several directorates at the Service Headquarters, including Accounts and Finance, Protocol, Training and Staff Development, and Passport and Travel Documents. He was a pioneer staff member of the NIS Contact Centre and later served as Second-in-Command at the SERVICOM Unit, overseeing public relations activities. Before his new role, he was an Immigration Attaché at the Nigerian Embassy in The Hague, Netherlands.

His appointment takes effect immediately. He is expected to use his expertise to enhance the Service Public Relations Officer’s role and promote the NIS’s public image.
