Africa: Nigerian Export Promotion Council, NEPC Presents Approval Letters To Domestic Export Warehouse, DEWS, Operators

In a bid to provide a seamless and enhance process in the export sector, the Nigerian Export Promotion Council, NEPC has presented approval letters to some selected Domestic Export Warehouse, DEW, operators in the country to eliminate the challenges faced by exporters.

According to kapital929.fm, the Executive Director of NEPC Mr Olusegun Awolowo said the presentation of the letters was to proffer solutions to the logistics and challenges of timely delivery encountered by exporters.

Mr Awolowo said Nigeria has not been able to convert its enormous comparative advantage in production of some agricultural primary produce to competitive advantage in the global market place as a result of supply chain constraints hence the need for the letters of approval to the operators.

“The supply chain challenges (storage, logistics and documentation etc) are very important in ensuring timely delivering of exportable product to buyers and importers. It is also a critical factor in complying with export orders and the ability to resolve these challenges will go a long way in addressing supply chain gaps in the export value chain as well as substantially increase in the non oil export volume by between 25-30% as projected by the International Trade Centre, ITC” He stated.

According to him, the move would reduce the cost of doing business for MSMEs exporting companies and also be one-stop Transit Facility/Terminal where pre- shipping activities such as packaging, fumigation among others of export designated agricultural produce in preparation for transportation to the ports prior for export destination.

The Executive Director of NEPC explained that DEW is also expected to streamline export procedures and documentation as well as provide a platform for interface between export-related agencies and exporters.

“The DEW is envisaged to be a game changer in the non-oil supply chain and expected to lead to substantial increase in Nigeria’s export earnings as well as corresponding increase in global market share” Mr Olusegun Awolowo added.

While receiving their approval letter, some of the Domestic Export Warehouse Operators commended NEPC for its commitment towards improving expirt of the nation’s agricultural produce.
They therefore promised to contribute their quota towards boosting export of non-oil products to the global market.
