Kcee

Nigerian talented singer and songwriter, Kcee has returned to the music scene with “Ojapiano”. Ten years ago, the artiste who’s real name is Kingsley Chinwuike Okonkwo dominated the soundscape and he would later link up with ace producer Del B to produce ‘Limpopo’ after the famous South African river.

Fast forward to 2023, KCee is making a comeback into the mainstream with the introduction of a unique sound called Ojapiano – a fusion of Amapiano, a hybrid of deep house, jazz and lounge music characterised by wide percussive bass lines and Igbo’s traditional flute, Oja.

According to The Guardian, the new single released on Saturday, June 3, the bearded singer and songwriter blend the iconic Oja flute, which is a key part of the Igbo indigenous music with the Amapiano. His combination of the two sounds is already generating much-needed excitement in the music scene, as the track embodies a perfect synergy of electronic elements and organic sounds, creating an immersive and unforgettable listening experience for music enthusiasts worldwide.

Ojapiano represents a new chapter in the evolution of music, seamlessly blending elements from diverse cultures – Nigeria and South Africa – and creating a harmonious marriage between modern beats and traditional melodies. Produced by Jaysynths, the single introduces the world to an electrifying fusion of sounds that blend the core elements of the Amapiano genre and the timeless African instrumentation. With this audacious collaboration, KCee aims to showcase the richness and vibrancy of African music to a global audience.

Less than a week after the song’s release, it has garnered over 440,000 videos on Tik Tok. KCee had his launch pad into the music industry when he, alongside his longtime friend, Precious well known as Presh entered for then Nigerian Breweries-sponsored music reality, Star Quest TV, which they won. The singer who hails from Amaputu-Uli in Ihiala Local Council of Anambra State had his break with Limpopo, a track from his impressive album Take Over, which was released in November 2013. The album, which had heavy hitters like Wizkid, Davido, Flavour, D’banj, Timaya, and Don Jazzy ushered him into stardom.

Since he gained massive mainstream fame, KCee has steadily evolved and stretched his talent into creating varying sounds. From an Afrobeats star, he made a switch to focus on the Eastern music industry where he adjusted his style and delivered the “Eastern Conference” album that marked that Era.
