The Nigerian Railway Corporation is set to usher in a new era of convenience as it prepares to introduce electronic ticketing for its standard gauge network, slated for launch next week.
According to punchng.com, the eagerly awaited development was confirmed by the Managing Director of NRC, Fidet Okhiria, during a recent interview on Wednesday, signaling a significant step towards modernizing and enhancing the railway travel experience in Nigeria.
Okhiria explained that the final testing phase of the e-ticketing platform would be completed on Wednesday, enabling it to go live for a restricted audience before becoming available to the general public.
He emphasised that the e-ticketing system would direct ticket sales revenue directly to the government’s coffers, significantly reducing the potential for corruption and revenue leakage.
According to him, the e-ticketing rollout would initially cover the Abuja-Kaduna route and will subsequently extend to other key routes, including Lagos-Ibadan and Itakpe-Warri.
