As part of engagements in Katsina State, the Director General of the Nigerian Tourism Development Authority (NTDA), Olayiwola Awakan GrPr, embarked on an enriching cultural tour of the state, a land deeply rooted in history and tradition.
The Director General was accompanied by Dr. Kabir Ali Masanawa, Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Katsina State History and Culture Bureau and Head of Explore Katsina State.
One of the highlights of the visit was Durbi Takusheyi, a historic settlement in Mani Local Government Area, renowned for its ancient burial site and its strong connection to past emirs and great leaders who once ruled the land. On arrival, the Director General was warmly received by the Village Head, Shamsu Yusuf Galadima. In a powerful display of cultural hospitality, he was dressed in traditional attire befitting a leader and ceremonially turbaned, symbolizing respect, unity, and acceptance into the rich heritage of the people.

Other sites visited included the Dr. Mamman Shata Open Theatre, Aldusar Parks and Zoo, and the historic Gobarau Minaret (Hasumiyya).
Adding to the memorable experience, the Director General took part in local cultural activities, including a symbolic horse ride, an important element of northern tradition. The excitement and joy of the moment reflected the warmth of Katsina’s people and the vibrancy of their culture. He later held a meeting with the Honourable Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, Barr. Hannatu Musa Musawa at her residence.
The visit showcased Katsina State as more than a destination. From ancient history and royal traditions to genuine hospitality and cultural pride, Katsina offers visitors a unique blend of learning, leisure, and adventure. Indeed, Katsina State is a welcoming and exciting place to visit, explore, and enjoy.
