The Nigerian Tourism Development Authority (NTDA) and the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture have renewed their commitment to strengthening collaboration and promoting Nigeria as a leading global tourism destination.
The commitment was made during a courtesy visit by the Director-General of the NTDA, Mr. Olayiwola Awakan to the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, where he was received by the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Bopo Oyekanmi-Ismaila.
During the meeting, Awakan commended the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture for its efforts in positioning Lagos as one of Africa’s leading tourism destinations.
He noted that the state’s achievements in tourism development provided valuable examples that could be adapted and replicated in other parts of Nigeria.

The NTDA Director-General expressed the Authority’s readiness to partner with Lagos State to expand successful tourism initiatives across the country, stressing the importance of collaboration in strengthening Nigeria’s tourism narrative and enhancing the country’s global appeal.
Awakan’s visit, according to the statement, formed part of ongoing efforts by the NTDA to deepen engagement with key tourism stakeholders and institutions across Nigeria.
Responding, Oyekanmi-Ismaila commended the NTDA Director-General for his dedication and initiatives aimed at improving the perception of Nigeria’s tourism sector since assuming office.
She noted that the vision of the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture to unlock the state’s tourism potential aligns with the broader objectives of the NTDA.
The Permanent Secretary reaffirmed the readiness of Lagos State to work closely with the NTDA to advance tourism development, not only within the state but across Nigeria and on the international stage.
The meeting underscores the growing importance of stronger collaboration between federal and state tourism authorities in developing Nigeria’s tourism industry, promoting destinations, attracting investment and creating a more compelling global image for the country.
