In a strategic move to enhance efficiency and modernize its aviation infrastructure, Egypt has recently announced plans to actively engage the private sector in the management of its airports.

According to Airspace, Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly articulated the government’s intention to forge partnerships with the private sector, indicating a significant shift in Egypt’s transportation sector during the Trans MEA event in Cairo.

The session was attended by representatives from over 20 leading international companies specializing in transport, logistics, and maritime navigation, with representatives from various nations such as Germany, China, Russia, the UAE, France, and the United States, highlighting the widespread international attention and potential partnerships this initiative could attract.

Madbouly emphasized the Egyptian government’s commitment to forging partnerships with private entities within the transportation domain. He underlined the government’s strong inclination towards having the private sector oversee transportation projects upon completion, expressing confidence in their capacity to manage and operate diverse facilities, including sea and dry ports.

“We are convinced that the private sector is best suited to manage and operate various projects and facilities, whether sea ports or dry ports,” affirmed Madbouly. Additionally, he disclosed the forthcoming plans to extend this partnership model to include the management and operation of airports, while also expressing a desire to explore collaborations for mass transit lines. The collaborative initiative resonates with the theme of TransMEA 2023, focusing on the “Nationalization of the Transportation Industry in Egypt” and receives the patronage of President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi.

This recent declaration signifies a notable shift in the Egyptian government’s approach, signaling an open invitation for private participation in reshaping the country’s transportation infrastructure. Egypt, with its strategic geographic position, robust aviation network, and progressive initiatives, is poised for an exciting transformation in its transport industry with this pioneering move towards private sector engagement.
