Tourism activities in Ondo State might be on the rise soon as the Governor, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu has revealed that he has awarded a contract for the construction of a coastal road linking Araromi beach in the state with Ibeju Lekki in Lagos.

Ayo Ipaye, the project would be all encompassing as the mega city would house the deep-sea port, the free trade zone, Industrial as well residential areas.

Electricity to the city will be supplied by a 250megawatt turban. There will be free access to the state through a well-developed road network and there will be access to Lagos via Lekki which will be connected directly to the zone. It will be dubbed ‘the Ondo Industrial City,” Ipaye said.

Araromi beach, which is 3 hours’ drive from Akure, has been described as the largest coastline in West Africa. It’s swampy terrain of the Atlantic Ocean coast.

The Ilajes are a distinct migratory coastal linguistic group of Yoruba peoples spread along the coastal belts of Ondo, Ogun, Lagos and Delta states, and originally made up of four geo-political entities namely: Ode Ugbo, Ode Mahin, Ode Etikan and Aheri. While most towns and villages in the Mahin kingdom (Ode Mahin) are distributed on arable lands, the towns and villages in the other three geo-polities of Ugbo, Aheri and Etikan kingdoms are spread out along the beaches and swampy terrains of the Atlantic Ocean coast.
